Portsmouth’s Detroit LionsJuly 12, 1930–1934Established as the Portsmouth Spartans in Portsmouth, Ohio, the team became a member of the NFL on July 12, 1930.[1] Due to financial difficulties, the team was moved to Detroit in 1934 and given the new moniker Lions, a reference to the Detroit Tigers, the city’s Major League Baseball (MLB) team.[6][7] From 1935 until 1957, the Lions won four NFL Championship Games. The team didn’t win a postseason game after winning the 1957 championship until the 1991 campaign.
