Miami (AP) — Clayton McCullough, the first base coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers, was hired by the Miami Marlins on Monday to become the team’s seventeenth manager. McCullough, 44, has been Dave Roberts’ first-base coach since the 2021 season and was hired by the Dodgers in 2015 as their minor league field coordinator. The Dodgers won their eighth World Series last month after defeating the New York Yankees in five games. In a statement, McCullough said, “After an amazing few weeks, it is exciting to end the year by finding the right opportunity for me and my family.” McCullough lives north of Miami in Jupiter, Florida.”I get to lead the Marlins franchise forward with a culture that is built on determination, focus, and care,” he said, adding that we have lived in South Florida for the past ten years. McCullough, a former minor league catcher, spent seven seasons as a manager in the Blue Jays’ minor league system. During six of those seven seasons, He McCullough guided the team to winning records. Skip Schumaker, the 2023 NL Manager of the Year, left the team in September after just two seasons, and he takes up the position. After hiring Schumaker in 2022, the Marlins finished 146-178. “His character, concern for people and culture, enthusiasm for player development, and drive for success stood out throughout our process.”Peter Bendix, president of baseball operations for the Marlins, stated, “It is a perfect fit for our organisation.” “He consistently brings positive energy, builds relationships, and has an impressive track record of success.” We are prepared to start working on the next exciting chapter for our club because it is evident that Clayton’s principles and vision are exactly in line with our own.
