A former All-Pro safety has joined the Detroit Lions’ practice squad.

Adams, who was selected in the first round in 2017, has a distinguished NFL career. Though he hasn’t received any of that honour since 2020, he is a three-time All-Pro and three-time Pro Bowl safety. He battled to maintain his health after three years with the Jets before becoming a vital part of the Seattle Seahawks from 2020 to 2023. He only appeared in 34 of 67 games during the four seasons. In an effort to save budget space and get younger, the Seahawks waived Adams this past offseason. In July, Adams finally signed with the Tennessee Titans after a protracted search for a new team. However, Adams asked to be released following just 20 shots in four games, whichIn the end, the Titans agreed. Both starters Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph played every snap on Thursday, suggesting that the Lions don’t currently have a shortage at safety. However, Detroit placed Ifeatu Melifonwu on injured reserve (for the second time) a few weeks ago, leaving the Lions’ reserves somewhat depleted. If the Lions want to shuffle Branch around, Adams could be able to provide some versatility to their secondary. Adams can also play a lot in the box, which would be helpful given Detroit’s lack of a linebacker. Adams also contributes veteran experience, at the very least. Nevertheless, he must demonstrate that he still has it and can maintain his health at the age of 29 and with a long history of injuries.
