This offseason, the Lakers are expected to add three players around LeBron James and Luka Doncic.

Many NBA fans and analysts predicted that the Los Angeles Lakers would contend for the championship this year after acquiring Luka Doncic from the Dallas Mavericks in February. Nevertheless, the Lakers lost to the Minnesota Timberwolves in five games in the opening round of this year’s playoffs, even though they had Doncic and NBA great LeBron James. Rob Pelinka front office in Los Angeles is anticipated to be quite busy throughout the offseason.

James has a player option to rejoin the organization, Doncic and Austin Reaves are eligible to sign extensions, and the team has to enhance its squad after the Timberwolves exposed JJ Redick group in the 2025 playoffs. According to Keith Smith of Spotracand Doncic will sign a contract extension with the Lakers this offseason, and James will return to the team for his 23rd NBA season next season.

The Lakers should expect to add a good center, some shooting, and most likely a seasoned point guard. According to Smith, that would place them in the running for a position close to the top of the Western Conference. This offseason, the Lakers need to get a center. Redick spent the entirety of Game 5 and the second part of Game 4 of the Timberwolves series without a typical center.

Pelinka acknowledged at his season-ending press conference that he will attempt to recruit a center this offseason. “We are aware that increasing the size of our frontcourt at the center position will be one of our main objectives this offseason,” Pelinka stated. “This roster requires a center and additional size. That is a very evident and direct result of Dallas acquiring a point guard in exchange for possibly the league’s finest big man. That will undoubtedly create a massive hole.
